National Identification Number (NIN)

INTRODUCTION

The National Identification Number (NIN) is a special 11-digits number assigned to each individual in a country by the body assigned to do that e.g. the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC). In most countries, citizens are issued just a single Identity Card which in most cases have almost all the bearer details e.g. financial, health, travel etc.

The National Identification Number (NIN) is also expected to serve as a general means of identification and expected to have information of the bearer across all bodies synchronized into it, this should be noticed that most people data has integrated from the Bank Verification Number (BVN) to NIN as many people who have never registered for the National Identification Number (NIN) were able to get one.

Early December 2020, the Nigerian Communication Commission (NCC) announced a two weeks ultimatum for all mobile phone users to get their SIM cards registered and also link all mobile lines owned by an individual to their National Identification Number (NIN) or get blocked, sale of SIM cards was also suspended until further notice, although the National Assembly later intervened and got the deadline extended till February 2021.

Since this announcement, all National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) centers has been filled to brim with people trying to register with majority having no success while there are easy ways to kick-start your National I.D. card registration from the comfort of your home.

Follow the process below to get your NIN using your mobile phone on all networks or through this use of the official NIMC mobile APP.
